Okay...so I haven't blogged in a while. I guess I have been sucked into the lazy days of summer:) I am starting to think about the direction I am going to take with my students in the fall and am very excited. I am going to contact our curriculum director to see if we can get rid of some of the security blocks on our internet. By doing this it will allow my students to not only post to a blog, but look at others as well. Wish me luck!!!

blogging for kids
I am having a difficult time finding blogs for kids. I think it is important to begin this journey with an idea of what is out there for kids. I haven't had much luck. I will keep searching and post my findings as soon as I find them:)

Student Blogging
I can't wait to try blogging with my students. I visited Anne Davis's "The Write Weblog"and was amazed at how she integrated blogging into her classroom.

This is a great example of how it can be done. Although the information from Will Richardson's Blogs, Wikis and Podcasts was a lot to take in, it is all starting to come together for me. I am now able to see how I can truly make this happen with my 3rd graders in the fall.

RSS FEEDS
I feel so accomplished! I figured out how to use an "aggregator" to keep track of all the news feeds I am interested in. I used Google Reader, which is so simple. I just picked the subscriptions that I wanted and voila! There they were! My endeavors didn't stop there, though. I decided to make an attempt at posting my favorite RSS feeds right here on my blog. I just clicked on add a gadget, chose Feeds, and then copied and pasted the address of the website I wanted to follow. I am amazed at how easy this technology is to use. I feel like I am making good progress and can't wait to try my hand at podcasting!!!

wiki
"What the heck is a wiki?" is a question I find myself asking more and more frequently. I have discovered that it means quick, but am still trying to grasp the concept. I think I am figuring it out, though. I tried wikiing (is that a word?) this morning and found it to be quit helpful. I have also had my students use it quit a bit while doing research. I had no idea, until just now, that anyone can post anything on Wikipedia! I can't wait to post something...I just need to think of something that might be valuable to others. Hmmmm.....that might take a while:)

Course 681
I am taking a course that is supposed to help me integrate technology into my classroom. Wow...there is so much to learn. I began this course with a basic knowledge of the internet, but am still very overwhelmed by all the possibilities!
